This session will talk about the history of justCARE (Campus Action for Reproductive Equity), and its beginnings at Berkeley and how it became an entire state-wide campaign. Come learn about what justCARE is doing now and how you can be a part of it on your own campus. You will also learn about what it takes to build a campaign, how to gain such wide-spread support and mobilize hundreds. justCARE started with students, and students are integral to organizing movements. The Underground Scholars Initiative will discuss the systematic influences of the school-to-prison pipeline, and the efforts of students and community members in reversing it to form a prison-to-university pipeline. Our session will brainstorm different forms of advocating, recruiting and retention with higher education, and how these efforts will lead to agency.

Close the Gap California is a statewide campaign to achieve gender balance in the California Legislature by recruiting progressive women to run. We recruit accomplished women in targeted districts and prepare them to launch competitive campaigns. Our recruits are pro-choice, pro-public school funding, and support paths out of poverty. Come to this session to learn more about our work!
